4.3 How do I sign into a machine? You sign in on the computers in the computer facilities using your X.500 username and password. Please remember to log out when you leave! 4.4 The machines won't let me sign in, what can I do?If you are having trouble signing in to the lab there could be a few reasons. You need to enable your x.500 Account for Active Directory (AD)
You need to be taking at least one credit in the current semester to have access to the public computer facilities. If you need access to take a test or other temporary access or would like to purchase lab access contact: East Bank
West Bank
St. Paul
If you are registered in the current semester you should talk to a consultant in any student computer facility so they can help you figure out why the sign-in won't let you in. 4.5 May I have food or beverages in the computer labs?In order to keep our equipment clean and in working order we prohibit the consumption of food and beverages in the public labs. We ask that even unopened beverages and food be kept out of sight. Even if you are not consuming them in the lab others may interpret this as permission to break the rules. The exception to the no food or beverages policy is that, the consultants working the labs, that can't eat at any other time due to their schedules, are only ones allowed to have food or beverages in the public computer labs.4.6 What materials are not acceptable to be viewed or printed in the labs? Our posted policy in the Computer Facilities - Access and Use Rules states "refrain from the generation, display or printing of offensive material as covered by the University's policy on equal opportunity and non-discrimination, including sexually or racially offensive or harassing materials." In general these facilities are provided for academic work. Any uses that conflict with that purpose are subject to prohibitions and restrictions.4.7 Can I play computer games in the lab?In general these facilities are provided for academic work. If playing games prevent others from using that machine for academic purposes you may be asked to return to academic work or vacate the machine so others can pursue academic needs. Under no circumstances should lab users install or attempt to install personal software on lab machines. Installing software may result in disciplinary action. | |||
