2.1 How much does large format printing cost(Coffman B060)?

The cost of printing on any of our three large format printers is $4.50 per square foot.
The size in square feet is based on the width and height of the document to print.


To find the price of your print use the print calculator.
The minimum cost is $10.00.
The minimum dimesions are 12" x 12"

Be aware of the minimums and use the following steps to find the cost of your print:
  • Multiply the width by the height to find the square feet of your image.
  • Round down to the nearest whole number of square feet.
  • Multiply the square feet by $4.50, this result is the cost of your print.

2.2 Where and how do I pay for printing?

To pay for large format prints you can use a check, cash on your ucard, or a budget number (cufs). In Coffman B060 you will be asked to fill out a form and then asked to pay before you print job is sent to the printer.

To pay for your print on our color or black and white laser printers you can use your ucard or redeem an existing print card at the U Card Office.
ADCS facilities no longer accept or sell printer cards.

2.3 Do I have to pay for mistakes?

On the large format printers, color laser printers, and black and white laser printers You must pay for all prints including formatting, spelling, or other mistakes that are not related to printer failure.

2.4 How do I use the large format printer(Coffman B060)?

The large format printers are only available in the Coffman Union B060 computer facility.
To use our facilities to produce your large format print you must complete the following steps:

** Note:  A Consultant on duty must assist you with all print jobs.

  • Create the large format print document:
    • Use Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator or Microsoft Power Point.
    • Set the size of your document to the size of the printout you desire.
      There are three printers to which you might send your print job:

      * HP Designjet 5000
      This is the most frequently used printer,
      it can print 41 inches wide (paper is 42 inches wide)

      * HP Designjet 5500,
      This is the largest printer,
      it can print 59 inches wide (paper is 60 inches wide)

      * Epson Stlyus 9600 Pro,
      This is the highest resolution printer with the longest lasting prints.
      To use this printer you need to make an appointment to use it,

      It can print 43 inches wide (paper is 44 inches wide)
    • The recommended resolution of source images is between 200 and 300 dpi.

  • Bring in the original Microsoft Power Point, Adobe Illustrator or Adobe Photoshop file.

  • Ask the consultant behind the desk to help you with your large format print.
    • The consultants will use an application named "LFP Processor" which will take care of resizing and rotation.

  • You need to pay for your print before you send it to the printer.
    • You can pay for your print by using a cuffs number (aka budget number),
      by personal check or by cash on your ucard.
    • Receipts are available.

  • Consultants will then send your document to the printer using Posterjet program.

  • Allow time for ink to dry before cutting.
    • We recommend waiting five minutes before you roll up your print out.
    • We also recommend you leave your print out face up, unrolled and in a dark place for the first 24 hours after your print has been printed. This is so the print will have time to fully dry and become more resistant to fading.

2.5 At which resolution should I scan?

Most of time you will want to scan between 72 and 100 dpi for using images in an email or webpage.
If you intend to include your image in a document, which you intend print
you should scan between 200 and 300 dpi.

2.7 Can I print on any type of special paper, like transparencies or resume paper?

Printing is only allowed on the paper provided by the computer facilities at this time. In order to print to transparency or resume paper you can go to Printing Services.
